To brush or not to brush

Being healthy is an important part of growing up.  Life gets much more complicated the older you get and by not following easy and simple routines to keep your body healthy you are risking your life, career, and happiness.  It really can come down to those things and you really want to do all that you can to make sure your body is healthy.  There simply is no time to be in pain, failing at life, or just doing your work slower because you have been negligent in taking care of your body.  There is no reason that your teeth should fall into this category especially when you can adequately protect yourself with 4 minutes and maybe 6 minutes of work each day.

This year has shown that it is even more important than ever to brush your teeth consistently.  There is so much truth in the fact that if you take care of your body upfront then you will have fewer dental emergencies later. This is indeed true for most people and preventative care is the answer to a ton of problems.  Americans in general seem to hold off until there is a problem in our lives and when it comes to teeth this is no exception.  We need so much time working out and dieting, but when it comes to eating and drinking foods that are good for our teeth we simply forget to check.  When it comes to brushing we also seem to brush it off.  We tend to think that we are eating or drinking ok, and that one brush each day is enough.  But the truth of the matter is that even though that is what we think, it is still much wiser to be proactive than reactive when it comes to your health.

So what is the main suggestion for brushing and not brushing?  Well, it is to get into a good habit.  That is what it takes to stay healthy for the long term.  The goal is simply to live a healthy life and not just go crazy working on your teeth a few times a year before you visit your dentist.  The truth is that getting into good habits is the answer to staying on top of your dental health.  All it takes is a daily habit to keep your mouth healthier and to help prevent tooth erosion and decay.  That can keep you from tons of expensive and painful issues down the road.

The goal is to get into a habit of brushing your teeth two to three times a day.  The American Dental Association thinks you should only brush twice a day to stay healthy. But to me there is more than just protection, but also looks as well.  I think that if you set up habits to brush three times a day you can immensely help your health. I think that the best thing to do is to get your cell phone out and set up three alarms a day.  If you set it up to last a month and you actually follow through you should be in a habit by the end of the month.  It takes about thirty days to do and once you are brushing three times a day and maybe using a whitening toothpaste not only will your mouth be less prone to tooth decay, but your smile will likely be much brighter.
